Why so serious?

The Epic Contact app is your free portal to the most revolutionary database ever created. This truly epic system captures the world’s changing contact data in real-time, then quietly and effortlessly downloads all of that great data right into your devices.

Why am I so serious about changing data?

Yesterday, entire families shared one phone number and one mailing address. My mom used to keep all of her contacts in a little black book. In that book, every single contact had data that had been erased and changed so much that the pages were literally ripped to tatters. That’s how much data changes over time. And I’d constantly hear her on the phone, asking such and such friend or relative if they had so-and-so’s new contact data.

Today, with the advent of social media, we’re all reaching back into our past to reconnect with friends of days-gone-by, even as we collect new contacts around the world through the internet. Multiply that by the advent of personal computers and mobile devices, where each individual contact is exploding with increased data – and you wind up with insanity! Each contact in our databases now has:

  • Multiple phone numbers to cover home, work, mobile, and other devices
  • Multiple fax numbers to cover your company and desktop at work, and even your desktop or laptop at home.
  • Multiple email addresses to cover home, work, mobile devices, and throw-away connections.
  • And some of us even have multiple mailing addresses, like home, school, and work.
  • Social Media contact data, such as Facebook and Twitter.
  • And Business Media contact data, such as LinkedIn and Monster

Many of us now have thousands of contacts in our databases! With so many contacts, how can we possibly remember what data of our own we’ve shared with each of them? How can we possibly update them all with our appropriate data as it changes? How can we update them, when much of the data we have for them has already gone bad? And, with all of that going on, each contact, no matter how close you are to them, always has missing information that you eventually come to find you need. It’s insane!

Can you imagine how complicated our kids’ contact databases will be after spending a lifetime collecting every acquaintance they’ve met?

Then, as our technology spreads across the Earth, then out into the stars, how can we possibly track all of that changing data for multiple planets, moons, space stations, and space ships? Sounds far fetched now, but what about 300 years from now? Think about it. This problem of contact data going bad has been around since man first started settling into communities. And, if we don’t fix this, it will be around for millennia more.

Can you imagine Captain Kirk of the Enterprise, trying to hail an enemy vessel to stop them from destroying the Earth, but hearing “We’re sorry, the number for the enemy vessel you are trying to reach is not in service. Please hang up and try again.”

This is serious stuff!

And that’s why I built the Epic Contact app. This revolutionary and free Epic Contact app solves all of these problems through an easy-to-use and user-friendly interface. yes, it takes some effort to get started, but the end result is pure and amazing beauty.

You can find the Epic Contact app by searching “Epic Contact” in either the Apple or Google play Stores.

Be a part of something amazing! join the 80,000 other contacts that have already become part of this amazing system!

You’ll be glad you did!

Thanks – and Scotty out.

Starting a Company: Be afraid

People will tell you to “Follow your dreams!” and “Life is what you make of it!” and “You never know unless you try.” etc. etc.

But those sayings are only partially true. It is true that you can’t win if you don’t play the game. I’m reminded of that old joke about the man who pleaded with God every day to help him win the lottery. So – every day he prayed – but no lottery winnings were ever pocketed – and on the day he died – he went to Heaven where he met God and said, “Lord, every day I prayed that I’d win the lottery, but you never made it happen! Why not?” And the Lord said – “You never bought a lottery ticket.”

With that said, business is considerably more than just going out and “trying.” True, you can get lucky, but think about this — approximately 50 percent of new businesses fail in the first year. This number has also been held to increase dramatically in the first five years of running a business, when the number is claimed to rise as high as 90 to 95 percent. Those are some long odds!

If you’re considering starting a new business, I highly recommend reading “The E-myth” by Michael Gerber:

Don’t get “The E-Myth Revisited” as the message is watered down. “The E-Myth” explains why and how most new businesses fail in the first year. This is absolutely CRITICAL reading for entrepreneurs! And, no, I am not getting paid a commission for recommending this book. It’s a good read, and the money you invest in this book is a drop in the bucket compared to what you can lose by going into business in the wrong way. I know from experience.

The second piece of advice I have for you is this — either get really good at accounting, or hire a fantastic numbers guy. The biggest killer of businesses in my experience is hidden costs – i.e. you think you’re making a profit, but you’re not — and you bleed yourself to death. A great numbers guy or gal can alert you to all kinds of problems BEFORE they kill you.

And the best piece of advice of all should be the 11th commandment – “Know thy customer, as thee know thyself.” Find a problem the customer has – find a habit tied to the problem – create a system that solves the problem consistently – tie the system to the habit – your product should provide a reward at the end of the habit – manage key indicators – service the customer – and own thy numbers.

Prototype Coding 4 of 4

Prototype Coding 4 of 4 was successful! That’s it! Technology risk over! Done deal!

Prototype 4 is being delivered to the master coder and will be incorporated into the site. All that remains now is coding in additional existing technologies to create the final product. I am now 3 to 5 months away from a deliverable!

After I have my product up and functioning, I’ll need to load a great deal of data into it to prepare it for launch. This will take about a month. During this time, I’ll be beta testing the site.

Mapping this out, it looks like October, 2012 is my target launch month.

Prototype Coding 2 and 3 of 4

Prototype coding 2 is an absolute success! Prototype coding 3 has suffered difficulties, but a solution has been found. And with prototypes 1, 2, and 3 being viable, I now have a deliverable product! So — Game On!

But it’s not the best it can be. I want prototype 4 to be part of the product. Prototype 4 is the largest, and most time consuming part of the coding. But I feel it’s worth the delay on launch to have it included. I should know by the end of the week whether the full product is a “Go”, or whether I’ll have to settle for something in between.

So – prototypes 2 and 3 are now being programmed into the site! Onward and Upward!

Prototype Coding 1 of 4….

….is highly successful! I’m very pleased! I now have the base of the company. I’ve also selected this company to code the whole site. They are now coding the actual website, including installing the home page, account systems and prototype 1 special functions. I’ll have an operational site with rudimentary function within 2 weeks.

Game On

I now have 14 quotes for my prototype work that range from $1600 to $12,000 — obviously, all are much lower than $100K. This is doable. I’m going to compare quotes and completed work  and  select the company I’m going to go with. I’m thinking something in the line of $3000 to $4000 as the $1600 programmer’s work looks cheap, and the $8000 to $12000 looks like overkill. Game on!

Back Story: History

I started a distribution company back in 1995 that survived for 3 years until I closed it’s doors in 1998 after losing my initial $25,000 cash investment + ending up $18,000 in debt, for a total loss of $43,000. When my company failed, I literally lost everything I had. I walked away with the clothes on my back – and a mountain of debt.

What did I do then? I started over from scratch. I went out and got a job. I payed off my debts. And I rebuilt my life piece by piece.

I must be a glutton for punishment, because now, with the stakes much higher (married with 3 kids), I’m going to try again. I’m going to start another company. And to my wife’s eternal horror, I’m dreaming BIG!! I’m planning BIG!! I’m acting BIG!! And I’m going to spend BIG MONEY, so the risks are Epic! Devastation is a real possibility here. And I’m going to write about it all as I put this whole shebang together. Every hurdle I encounter, every victory or defeat I face, you’ll get to hear about it here!

So hang onto your hats folks! Will this venture turn out to be an Epic Win?! Or an Epic Fail?! Either way, I can guaranty you this….the results will be Epic! Why? Because that’s the name of my new company!  EpicHub.com! Follow me now as I either make it big — or lose everything – again! So. Without further ado. It’s time to roll the dice!
